Sabbath School is the heart of the church. It consists of four pillars: Bible study and prayer, fellowship, local mission (community outreach), and global mission.

One of the best ways to study the Bible and find freedom, healing and hope in Jesus is to interact with small groups of people that are also deepening their knowledge of the Bible. The Sabbath School and Personal Ministries department provides Bible study guides and material for small groups that meet on Saturday mornings and other times of the week to study. No matter what your age, this department has resources to help you get to know God better and to share what you learn with others.

Bible study and prayer are the spiritual foundation of Sabbath School. Through Bible study, members learn God’s Word, understand His character, and discover how biblical principles apply to their daily lives.

Sabbath School provides a special opportunity for members to study the lesson together, ask questions, discuss Scripture, and grow in their knowledge of Jesus Christ. The goal is not simply to gain information, but to allow God’s Word to transform our lives.
Prayer goes hand in hand with Bible study. As we study the Bible, we learn what God desires for us; through prayer, we communicate with Him and ask for His guidance, strength, forgiveness, and wisdom. Sabbath School should therefore be a place where people feel comfortable praying for their families, church, community, and personal needs. Prayer also helps members develop a deeper and more personal relationship with God.
When Bible study and prayer become a regular part of Sabbath School, members are better prepared to face challenges during the week. They become spiritually stronger, more confident in their faith, and more willing to follow Christ. A Sabbath School that prioritizes the Word of God and prayer helps produce disciples who know Jesus personally and are ready to share Him with others.

Fellowship means building genuine Christian relationships and creating a sense of belonging. Sabbath School brings people together not only to study the Bible but also to know, encourage, and support one another.

Members should feel that they are part of a spiritual family where they are welcomed, valued, listened to, and cared for regardless of their age or background.
Fellowship also involves sharing life with one another. Members can encourage those who are struggling, visit the sick, support families experiencing difficulties, celebrate important moments, and pray for one another. Small groups, Sabbath School classes, social activities, and special programs can create opportunities for deeper relationships. True fellowship goes beyond simply sitting together every Sabbath; it means becoming connected as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Strong fellowship also helps prevent people from becoming isolated from the church. When visitors and new members experience genuine love and acceptance, they are more likely to feel at home and become actively involved. Therefore, Sabbath School should be a place where people can say, “I am known, I am loved, and I belong.”

Community Outreach is the expression of Christ’s love toward people in the community. Sabbath School should not focus only on what happens inside the church building. Jesus taught His followers to serve others, care for those in need, and share the good news.

Local mission gives Sabbath School members opportunities to identify needs around them and respond with practical acts of Christian service.
Community outreach can take many forms, such as visiting the sick, helping vulnerable families, distributing food or clothing, conducting health programs, cleaning the community, supporting children and young people, offering Bible studies, and praying with people. The important thing is to meet people where they are and demonstrate God’s love in practical ways. Mission becomes more meaningful when the church serves people without expecting anything in return.
Local mission also helps members move from being church attendees to active disciples. When Sabbath School classes organize outreach activities, members discover that everyone has something to contribute. Children, youth, adults, and older members can participate according to their abilities. In this way, Sabbath School becomes a training ground for mission, preparing members to take Christ’s love beyond the church walls.

Global mission reminds Sabbath School members that the church is part of a worldwide movement. The Seventh-day Adventist Church has a mission to share the gospel with people from every nation, culture, and language.

Global mission helps members understand that while we serve our local community, we are also connected to millions of believers around the world who are working toward the same purpose: preparing people for the return of Jesus.
One important way Sabbath School participates in global mission is through mission offerings and mission stories. Mission stories help members learn about the work being done in different countries and understand the challenges faced by missionaries and communities around the world. Through offerings, prayer, and personal involvement, members can support evangelism, schools, churches, health ministries, and other projects in places they may never personally visit.
Global mission therefore develops a worldwide vision for ministry. It teaches members that our responsibility does not end at the boundary of our church, district, or country. We are part of one body with one mission. When Sabbath School combines Bible study, fellowship, local service, and global mission, it becomes more than a weekly meeting—it becomes a powerful system for making disciples and taking the gospel to the whole world.
